Und er norm al operating cond itions, the fluid installed at
the factory will give satisfactory lubrication for the life of
the vehicle. Fluid changes are not necessary unless the
lubricant has becom e contam inated with water. If con-
tam inated with water, the fluid shou ld be changed im-
mediately.
TransferCase
FluidLevelCheck
Insp ect the transfer case for fluid leaks. If a fluid leak is
evid ent, the transfer case fluid level can be checked by
rem oving the fill plug (B) located at the back of the
transfer case.
AddingFluid
Only at filler hole until fluid runs out of the hole, when
the vehicle is in a level position.
The fluid level shou ld be to the bottom edge of the fill
hole (A) when the vehicle is in a level position.
Drain
First rem ove fill plug (B), then drain plug (C). Recom -
mend ed tightening torqu e for drain and fill plugs is
15–25
ft. lbs. (20–34 N·m).
