ONBOARDDIAGNOSTICSYSTEM—OBDII
CAUTION!
Your vehicle is equ ipped with a sop histicated onboard
diagnostic system called OBD II. This system monitors
the perform ance of the emissions, engine, and autom atic
transm ission control system s. When these system s are
operating prop erly, you r vehicle will provid e excellent
perform ance and fuel econom y, as well as engine emis-
sions well within current governm ent regu lations.

Prolonged driving with the “Malfunction Indicator
Light” on could cause further damage to the emis-
sioncontrolsystem.Itcouldalsoaffectfueleconomy
anddriveability.Thevehiclemustbeservicedbefore
anyemissionstestscanbeperformed.
If the “Malfunction Indicator Light” is flashing
whiletheengineisrunning,severecatalyticcon-
verter damage and power loss will soon occur.
Immediateserviceisrequired.
If any of these system s requ ire service, the OBD II system
will turn on the “Malfu nction Ind icator Light.” It will
also store diagnostic codes and other inform ation to
assist you r service technician in making rep airs. Al-
thou gh you r vehicle will usually be drivable and not
need tow ing, see you r dealer for service as soon as
possible.

LooseFuelFillerCapMessage
After fuel is added, the vehicle diagnostic system can
determ ine if the fuel filler cap is loose, improp erly
installed , or damaged . A loose fuel filler cap message will
be displayed in the instru ment cluster. Tighten the gas
cap until aЉclickingЉ sou nd is heard . This is an ind ication
