Starting the engine

Turnthekeyto3(on)without
turningthekeyto4(start).Ifthere
isdifficultyinturningthekey,
rotatethesteeringwheeluntilthe
keyturnsfreely.Thisconditionmay
occurwhen:

afrontwheelisagainstthecurb
Turnthekeyto4(start),then
releasethekeyassoonasthe
enginebeginscranking.Yourvehiclehasacomputerassistedcranking
systemthatassistsinstartingtheengine.Afterreleasingthekeyfrom
the4(start)position,theenginemaycontinuecrankingforupto
10
secondsoruntilthevehiclestarts.
Note:Crankingmaybestoppedatanytimebyturningthekeytotheoff
position.
3. Afteridlingforafewseconds,applythebrake,shiftintogearand
drive.
Note:Iftheenginedoesnotstartonthefirsttry,turnthekeytotheoff
position,wait10secondsandtrystep2again.Iftheenginestillfailsto
start,presstheacceleratortothefloorandtrystep2again,keepingthe
acceleratorontheflooruntiltheenginebeginstoaccelerateabove
crankingspeeds;thiswillallowtheenginetocrankwiththefuelshutoff
incasetheengineisfloodedwithfuel.
Guarding against exhaust fumes
Althoughodorlessandcolorless,carbonmonoxideispresentinexhaust
fumes.Takeprecautionstoavoiditsdangerouseffects.
WARNING:Ifyoueversmellexhaustfumesofanykindinside
yourvehicle,haveyourauthorizeddealerinspectandfixyour
vehicleimmediately.Donotdriveifyousmellexhaustfumes.These
fumesareharmfulandresultinaccidentordeath.
