Seating and Safety Restraints
Frontseatbeltusagesensors
Thefrontseatbeltusagesensorsdetectwhetherornotthedriverand
frontoutboardpassengerseatbeltsarefastened.Thisinformationallows
yourPersonalSafetySystem௡totailortheairbagdeploymentandseat
beltpretensioneractivationdependinguponseatbeltusage.Referto
Safetyrestraintssectioninthischapter.
Frontseatbeltpretensioners
Theseatbeltpretensionersatthefrontoutboardseatingpositionsare
designedtotightentheseatbeltsfirmlyagainsttheoccupant’sbody
duringfrontalcollisions,andinsidecollisionsandrolloverswhenthe
vehicleisequippedwiththeside-curtainairbagsystem.Thishelps
increasetheeffectivenessoftheseatbelts.Infrontalcollisions,theseat
beltpretensionerscanbeactivatedaloneor,ifthecollisionisof
sufficientseverity,togetherwiththefrontairbags.
Seatbeltloadlimiter
Thefrontandrearoutboardseatbeltloadlimiterallowswebbingtobe
pulledoutoftheretractorinagradualandcontrolledmannerin
responsetotheoccupant’sforwardmomentum.Thishelpsreducethe
riskofforce-relatedinjuriestotheoccupant’schestbylimitingtheload
ontheoccupant.RefertoLoadlimiterfeaturesectioninthischapter.
DeterminingifthePersonalSafetySystemாisoperational
ThePersonalSafetySystem௡usesawarninglightintheinstrument
clusteroraback-uptonetoindicatetheconditionofthesystem.Refer
totheWarninglightsectionintheInstrumentclusterchapter.Routine
maintenanceofthePersonalSafetySystem௡isnotrequired.
TheRestraintscontrolmodule(RCM)monitorsitsowninternalcircuits
andthecircuitsfortheairbagsupplementalrestraints,crashsensor(s),
seatbeltpretensioners,frontseatbeltbucklesensors,driverseat
positionsensor,andfrontpassengersensingsystem.Inaddition,the
RCMalsomonitorstherestraintswarninglightintheinstrumentcluster.
Amalfunctionwiththesystemisindicatedbyoneormoreofthe
following.

Thewarninglightwilleitherflashorstaylit.
Thewarninglightwillnotilluminateimmediatelyafterignitionis
turnedon.

Aseriesoffivebeepswillbeheard.Thetonepatternwillrepeat
periodicallyuntiltheproblemandwarninglightarerepaired.
