Ifdrivingsafelyonawetroadandit
becomesnecessary toslamonthe
brakesandcontinue brakingto
avoidasuddenobstacle, a
computersensesthatthewheels
areslowingdown.Ifoneofthe
wheelsisabouttostoprolling, the
computerwillseparately workthe
brakesateachwheel.
therewillnotbeenoughtimeto
applythebrakesifthatvehicle
suddenlyslowsorstops.Always
leaveenoughroomupaheadto
stop,evenwithABS.
AntilockBrake
System(ABS)
ThisvehiclehastheAntilock Brake
System(ABS),anadvanced
electronic brakingsystemthathelps
preventabrakingskid.
UsingABS
Donotpumpthebrakes.Justhold
thebrakepedaldownfirmlyandlet
ABSwork.TheABSpumpormotor
mightbeheardoperating, andthe
brakepedalmightbefelttopulsate,
butthisisnormal.
ABScanchangethebrakepressure
toeachwheel,asrequired, faster
thananydrivercould.Thiscanhelp
thedriversteeraroundtheobstacle
whilebrakinghard.
Whentheengineisstartedandthe
vehiclebeginstodriveaway,ABS
checksitself.Amomentary motoror
clicking noisemightbeheardwhile
thistestisgoingon,anditmight
evenbenoticedthatthebrake
BrakinginEmergencies
Asthebrakesareapplied,the
computerkeepsreceiving updates
onwheelspeedandcontrols
brakingpressure accordingly.
ABSallowsthedrivertosteerand
brakeatthesametime.Inmany
emergencies, steering canhelp
morethaneventheverybest
braking.

Remember: ABSdoesnotchange
thetimeneededtogetafootupto
thebrakepedaloralwaysdecrease
stopping distance. Ifyougettoo
closetothevehicleinfrontofyou,
