3. Forautomatic transmission
vehicles, trytostarttheengine
ineachgear.Thevehicle
shouldstartonlyinP(Park)or
N(Neutral). Ifthevehiclestarts
inanyotherposition, contact
yourdealer/retailer forservice.

Whenyouaredoingthis
inspection, thevehiclecould
movesuddenly.Ifthevehicle
moves,youorotherscouldbe
injured.
Formanualtransmission
vehicles, puttheshiftleverin
Neutral, pushtheclutchpedal
downhalfway,andtrytostart
theengine.Thevehicleshould
startonlywhentheclutchpedal
ispusheddownallthewayto
thefloor.Ifthevehiclestarts
whentheclutchpedalisnot
pushedallthewaydown,
contactyourdealer/retailer for
service.
Togetanaccurate reading, the
vehicleshouldbeonalevel
surface.

Beforestarting thischeck,be
surethereisenoughroom
aroundthevehicle.
Ifthelevelisbelowthebottomof
thefillerplughole,locatedonthe
rearaxle,you'llneedtoaddsome
lubricant. Addenoughlubricant to
raisetheleveltothebottomofthe
fillerplughole.

Firmlyapplyboththeparking
brakeandtheregularbrake.
