theangleoftheimpact,andhow
quicklythevehicleslowsdown.
Forseat-mounted sideimpactand
roof-rail airbags, deployment is
determined bythelocation and
severity ofthesideimpact.
WhatMakesanAirbag
Inflate?
Inadeployment event,thesensing
systemsendsanelectrical signal
triggering areleaseofgasfromthe
inflator.Gasfromtheinflator fillsthe
airbagcausingthebagtobreakout
ofthecoveranddeploy.Theinflator,
theairbag,andrelatedhardwareare
allpartoftheairbagmodule.
Frontalairbagmodulesarelocated
insidethesteering wheeland
Roof-rail airbagsarenot
intended toinflateinrearimpacts.
Aseat-mounted sideimpactairbag
isintended todeployontheside
ofthevehiclethatisstruck.Both
roof-rail airbagswilldeploywhen
eithersideofthevehicleisstruckor
ifthesensingsystempredicts that
thevehicleisabouttorollover,orin
aseverefrontalimpact.
Inarollover event,roof-rail airbag
deployment isdetermined bythe
direction oftheroll.
