ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM (ESP) —
IF EQUIPPED
This system enhances directional control and stability of
the vehicle und er variou s driving cond itions. The ESP
corrects for oversteering and und ersteering the vehicle
by applying the brake of the approp riate wheel. Engine
power may also be red uced to assist in counteracting the
cond ition of oversteer or und ersteer and help the vehicle
maintain the desired path.
WARN ING!
The ESP (Electron ic Stab ility Program ) cannot pre-
ven t the natu ral law s of physics from actin g on the
veh icle, nor can it increase the traction afford ed by
prevailin g road condition s. The ESP cannot preven t
accid ents, including those resu ltin g from excessive
speed in turns, drivin g on very slip pery surfaces, or
hydrop lan ing. Only a safe, atten tive, and skillfu l
driver can preven t accid ents. The capabilities of an
ESP-eq uipped veh icle must never be exploited in a
reck less or dangerou s manner, which could jeop ar-
dize the user’s safety or the safety of oth ers.
The ESP uses sensors in the vehicle to determ ine the path
that the driver intend s to steer the vehicle and compares 5
it to the actu al path of the vehicle. When the actu al path
does not match the intend ed path, the ESP applies the
brake of the approp riate wheel to assist in counteracting
the cond ition of oversteer or und ersteer.
