Raise the vehicle just enou gh to rem ove the flat tire
9. Install the lug nu ts with the cone shap ed end of the
nu t tow ard the wheel. Lightly tighten the lug nu ts. To
avoid the risk of forcing the vehicle off the jack, do not
tighten the lug nu ts fully until the vehicle is lowered to
the grou nd .
WARN ING!
Raisin g the veh icle high er than necessary can make
the veh icle less stab le. It could slip off the jack and
hurt som eon e near it. Raise the veh icle only enough
to rem ove the tire.

Lower the vehicle to the grou nd by turning the jack

Finish tightening the lug nu ts. Push down on the
wrench while tightening for increased leverage. Alternate
lug nu ts until each nu t has been tightened twice. The
correct tightness of each lug nu t is 100 ft/ lb. (135 N. m).
If in doubt abou t the correct tightness, have them
checked with a torqu e wrench by you r dealer or at a
service station.

NOTE: For vehicles so equ ipped, do not attem pt to
install a center cap or wheel cover on the compact spare.
However, when reinstalling the road tire, follow the
proced ure und er “Wheel Cover or Center Cap Installa-
tion” in place of the rem aining step s in this proced ure.
12. Stow the jack, tools, and flat tire. Make sure the base
of the jack faces the rear of the vehicle before tightening
down the fastener.
