Materials Added to Fuel
All gasoline sold in the United States is requ ired to
contain effective detergent additives. Use of additional
detergents or other additives is not need ed und er norm al
cond itions and they would resu lt in additional cost.
Therefore, you shou ld not have to add anything to the
fuel.
MMT In Gasoline
MMT is a manganese containing metallic additive that is
blend ed into som e gasoline to increase octane. Gasoline
blend ed with MMT provid es no perform ance advantage
beyond gasoline of the sam e octane nu mber withou t
MMT. Gasoline blend ed with MMT red uces spark plug
life and red uces emission system perform ance in som e
vehicles. The manu factu rer recom mend s that gasoline
withou t MMT be used in you r vehicle. The MMT content
of gasoline may not be ind icated on the gasoline pump;
therefore, you shou ld ask you r gasoline retailer whether
his/ her gasoline contains MMT. It is even more impor-
tant to look for gasolines withou t MMT in Canad a,
becau se MMT can be used at levels higher than those
allow ed in the United States. MMT is prohibited in
Federal and California reform ulated gasoline.
