separate and fold out of the way, as the bags inflate to
their full size. The bags fully inflate in abou t 50 - 70
millisecond s. This is abou t half of the time that it takes
to blink you r eyes. The bags then quickly deflate while
help ing to restrain the driver and front passenger. The
driver’s front airbag gas is vented throu gh vent holes
in the sides of the airbag. The passenger’s front airbag
gas is vented throu gh vent holes in the sides of the
airbag. In this way, the airbags do not interfere with
you r control of the vehicle.

inflate, it signals the inflators on the crash side of the

out of the way and covers the wind ow. The airbag
inflates in abou t 30 millisecond s (abou t one quarter of
the time that it takes to blink you r eyes) with enou gh
force to injure you if you are not belted and seated
prop erly, or if item s are positioned in the area where
the side curtain airbag inflates. This especially applies
to child ren. The side curtain airbag is only abou t 3-1/ 2
inches (9 cm) thick when it is inflated .
