Towing Tips
Towing Tips — Electron ic Speed Con trol (If
Equipped)
Before setting out on a trip , practice turning, stop ping,
and backing the trailer in an area located away from
heavy traffic.
−
−
Don’t use in hilly terrain or with heavy load s.
When using the speed control, if you experience speed
drop s greater than 10 mph (16 km/ h), disengage until
you can get back to cruising speed .
Towing Tips — Autom atic Transmission
The “D” range can be selected when tow ing. However, if
frequ ent shifting occurs while in this range, the “3” range
shou ld be selected .
− Use speed control in flat terrain and with light load s to
maxim ize fuel efficiency.
NOTE: Using the “3” range while operating the vehicle
und er heavy operating cond itions will improve perfor-
mance and extend transm ission life by red ucing exces-
sive shifting and heat build up. This action will also
provid e better engine braking.
Towing Tips — Autostick (If Equipped)
−
For vehicles equ ipped with Autostick. By using the
Autostick modes, and selecting a specific gear range,
frequ ent shifting can be avoid ed. The highest gear
range shou ld be selected that allow s for adequ ate
perform ance. For exam ple, choose “4” if the desired
speed can be maintained . Choose “3” or “2” if need ed
to maintain the desired speed .
If you REGULARLY tow a trailer for more than 45
minu tes of continu ous operation, then change the auto-
matic transam ission fluid and filter accord ing to the
interval specified for “police, taxi, fleet, or frequ ent trailer
tow ing” in the “Maintenance Sched ule” in this manu al.
