MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE
Drive Belts — Check Condition and Tension
plug. Refer to the Engine data Label located und er the
hood for the prop er typ e of spark plug for use in you r
vehicle.
At the mileage show n in the maintenance sched ules,
check all drive belts for cond ition and prop er tension.
Improp er belt tension can cause belt slippage and failu re.
Ignition Wiring System
Insp ect the drive belts for evid ence of cuts, cracks, or
glazing and rep lace them if there is any sign of damage
which could resu lt in belt failu re. If adjustm ent is re-
quired , see you r authorized dealer for service.
The ignition cables shou ld be kep t clean and prop erly
connected . Terminals shou ld be fully seated . Cracked ,
damaged , or faulty cables shou ld be rep laced .
Catalytic Converter
Special tools are requ ired to prop erly measu re tension
and to restore belt tension to factory specifications. Also,
check belt rou ting to make sure there is no interference
betw een the belts and other engine components.
The catalytic converter requ ires the use of unlead ed fuel
only. Lead ed gasoline will destroy the effectiveness of the
catalyst as an emission control device.
Und er norm al operating cond itions, the catalytic con-
verter will not requ ire maintenance. However, it is im-
portant to keep the engine prop erly tuned to assu re
prop er catalyst operation and prevent possible catalyst
damage.
Spark Plugs
Spark plugs must fire prop erly to assu re engine perfor-
mance and emission control. New plugs shou ld be in-
stalled at the specified mileage. The entire set shou ld be
rep laced if there is any malfunction due to a faulty spark
