THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE
LIFTGATE

NOTE: The key that is used to start the vehicle is also
used to lock or unlock the doors and open the liftgate.

Drivin g with the liftgate open can allow poison -
ous exhaust gases into you r veh icle. You and you r
passen gers could be injured by these fumes. Keep
the liftgate closed when you are operatin g the
veh icle.
To open the liftgate, insert the key into the lock and turn
to the left. The liftgate can also be unlocked using the
rem ote keyless entry or by activating the power door lock
switches located on the front doors. The central locking/
unlocking featu re (if equ ipped) can also be activated
from the liftgate key cylind er.
If you are req uired to drive with the liftgate open,
make sure that all windows are closed , and the
clim ate control blow er switch is set at high speed .
DO NOT use the recircu lation mode.
Once unlocked , the liftgate can be opened or closed
withou t using the key. To open the liftgate, pull out on
the outsid e hand le and lift up with one fluid motion.
Gas prop s support the liftgate in the open position.
However, becau se the gas pressu re drop s with tem pera-
ture, it may be necessary to assist the prop s when
opening the liftgate in cold weather.
