UNDERSTANDING THE FEATURES OF YOUR VEHICLE
To Accelerate for Passing
Dep ress the accelerator as you would norm ally. When the
pedal is released , the vehicle will retu rn to the set speed .
WARNING!
Leaving the Speed Control ON when not in use is
dangerous.Youcouldaccidentallysetthesystemor
cause it to go faster than you want. You could lose
control and have an accident. Always leave the
systemOFFwhenyouaren’tusingit.
NOTE: When driving uphill, at elevations above 2,000
feet (610 meters), or when the vehicle is heavily load ed
(especially when tow ing) the vehicle may slow below the
SET speed . If the vehicle speed drop s below 25 mph (40
km/ h) for 5.7L models, or 30 mph (48 km/ h) for 3.7L/
4.7L
models, the Speed Control will autom atically disen-

gage. If this hap pens, you can push down on the accel-
erator pedal to maintain the desired speed .
When going up or down hills, it is possible for you r
vehicle to lose or gain speed , even thou gh the Speed
Control is engaged . The autom atic transm ission may also
downshift to a lower gear, to maintain speed going up or
down hills. If going down a hill steep enou gh to cause the
vehicle to gain speed , press the brake pedal, which will
disengage the Speed Control and help slow you r vehicle.
Vehicles may exhibit several 4-3 downshifts und er the
above cond itions. To red uce the frequ ency of the down-
shifts and to improve vehicle perform ance, it is advisable
to lock out overd rive. Press the TOW/ HAUL switch on
the lower center switch bank (below the Heating/ Air
Cond itioning controls).
