The torqu e converter clutch will not engage

(Park), R (Reverse), and N (Neutral) will continu e to
operate. Only Second gear range will operate in the D
(Drive) shifter position. Have the transm ission checked at
you r authorized dealer as soon as possible.

the engine speed is higher when the torqu e converter
clutch is not engaged , it may seem as if the transm ission
is not shifting into Overd rive when cold. This is norm al.
Manu ally shifting betw een 3 (third gear) and 4 (fourth
gear) positions (using the ERS shift control) will demon-
strate that the transm ission is able to shift into and out of
Overd rive.
TorqueConverterClutch
A featu re designed to improve fuel econom y is inclu ded
in all autom atic transm issions. A clutch within the torqu e
converter engages autom atically at a calibrated speed at
light throttle. It engages at higher speed s und er heavier
acceleration. This may resu lt in a slightly different feeling
or resp onse during norm al operation in high gear. When
the vehicle speed drop s below a calibrated speed , or

If the vehicle has not been driven in several
days, the first few second s of operation after shifting the
transm ission into gear may seem sluggish. This is due to
the fluid partially draining from the torqu e converter into
the transm ission. This cond ition is norm al and will not
