Front/Rear Axle Fluid

After extend ed operation in mud, sand or water, or
similar dirty cond itions, have you r brake discs, brake
linings, and axle joints insp ected and cleaned as soon as
possible. This will prevent any abrasive material from
causing excessive wear or unp red ictable braking action.
FrontAxleFluidLevelCheck
Lubricant shou ld be to the bottom of the oil fill hole.
RearAxleFluidLevelCheck
Lubricant shou ld be 1/ 2” (1 cm) below the oil fill hole.
AddingFluid
Add lubricant only at the fill hole and only to the level
specified above.
Follow ing off-pavem ent usage, completely insp ect the
und erbod y of you r vehicle. Check tires, bod y stru cture,
steering, suspension and exhau st system for damage.
Check thread ed fasteners for looseness, particu larly on
the chassis, drivetrain components, steering and suspen-
sion. Retighten, if requ ired , to torqu e valu es specified in
the Service Manu al. Also check for accumulations of
vegetation or bru sh that could becom e a fire hazard , or
conceal damage to fuel lines, brake hoses, axle pinion
seals, and prop eller shafts.

Use only manu factu rer’s recom mend ed fluid, refer to
Fluids, Lubricants, and Genu ine Parts for correct fluid
typ e.
