STARTING AND OPERATING
If the engine has been flood ed, it may start to run, but not
have enou gh power to continu e running when the key is
released . If this occurs, continu e cranking with the accel-
erator pedal pushed all the way to the floor. Release the
accelerator pedal and the key once the engine is running
smoothly.
After Starting
The idle speed will autom atically decrease as the engine
warm s up.
CAUTIO N!
If the engine show s no sign of starting after two 15
second period s of cranking with the accelerator pedal
held to the floor, the “Norm al Starting” or “Extrem e Cold
Weather” proced ures shou ld be rep eated .
Long period s of engin e idlin g, esp ecially at high
engin e speed s can cause excessive exhaust tem pera-
tures which can damage you r veh icle. Do not leave
you r veh icle unatten ded with the engin e running.
WARN ING!
ENGINE BLOCK HEATER — IF EQUIPPED
The engine block heater warm s engine coolant and
perm its quicker starts in cold weather. Connect the cord
to a stand ard 110-115 volt AC electrical outlet with a
grou nd ed, three wire extension cord . The engine block
heater cord is found und er the hood clipped to the heater
line on the left side of the engine (3.7L only).
Never pour fuel or oth er flam mable liq uids into the
throttle body air inlet opening in an attem pt to start
the veh icle. This could resu lt in a flash fire causin g
seriou s person al injury.
