When you slow down or go up a grad e, downshift as
speed requ ires or the engine may overheat.
CAUTIO N!
To drive as safely as possib le and to prolon g the life
of you r manual tran smission , follow these tip s:
Never hold the vehicle stop ped on a hill by using the
clutch pedal. The clutch may be damaged .
During cold weather, you may experience increased
effort in shifting until the transm ission fluid warm s
up. This is norm al.

Before shifting from a forw ard gear into reverse, or
from reverse to a forw ard gear, stop vehicle com-
pletely. Otherw ise, accelerated transm ission wear may
resu lt.

Push in the clutch pedal completely when shifting.
Otherw ise, transm ission or clutch damage may resu lt.

Do not operate at sustained high engine or road
speed s in lower gears. Engine damage may resu lt.
When “rocking” a stu ck vehicle by shifting betw een a
forw ard gear and reverse, do not spin wheels faster
than 15 mph (24 km/ h), or drivetrain damage may
resu lt.
Do not downshift into a low gear while traveling at too
high a speed for that gear. Engine, clutch, or transm is-
sion damage may resu lt.

Do not rest you r foot on the clutch pedal. This causes
heat buildup and damages the clutch.
