The Sid e Impact SRS Win dow Bags are designed to
activate only in certain side collisions. When the ORC
(with side impact option) detects a collision requ iring
the wind ow bags to inflate, it signals the inflators on
the crash side of the vehicle. A quantity of nontoxic gas
is generated to inflate the wind ow bag. The inflating
wind ow bag pushes the outsid e edge of the head liner
out of the way and covers the wind ow. The airbag
inflates in abou t 30 millisecond s (abou t one quarter of
the time it takes to blink you r eyes) with enou gh force
to injure you if you are not belted and seated prop erly,
or if item s are positioned in the area where the
If A Deploym ent Occurs
The airbag system is designed to deploy the airbags
when the impact sensors detect a moderate-to-severe
frontal collision, to help restrain the driver and front
passenger, and then immediately deflate.
NOTE: A frontal collision that is not severe enou gh to
need airbag protection will not activate the system . This
does not mean som ething is wrong with the airbag
system .
