STARTING AND OPERATING
ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM — IF EQUIPPED
The Anti-Lock Brake System is designed to aid the driver
in maintaining vehicle control und er adverse braking
cond itions. The system operates with a separate com-
puter to modulate hyd rau lic pressu re to prevent wheel
lock-u p and help avoid skid ding on slippery surfaces.
The Anti-Lock Brake System cond ucts a low speed self-
test at abou t 12 mph (20 km/ h). If for any reason, you r
foot is on the brake when the vehicle reaches 12 mph (20
km/ h), this check will be delayed until 25 mph (40
km/ h).
The Anti-Lock Brake System pump motor runs during
the self-test and during an ABS stop to provid e the
regu lated hyd rau lic pressu re. The motor pump makes a
low hu mming noise during operation, this is norm al.
All vehicle wheels and tires must be the sam e size and
typ e and tires must be prop erly inflated to prod uce
accurate signals for the computer.
During off-road use, loss of traction can tem porarily
defeat the system and cause the warning light to illumi-
nate. Turn the ignition OFF and ON again to restore
Anti-Lock Brake System function.
WARN ING!
Sign ifican t over or under-in flation of tires, or mixin g
sizes of tires or wheels on the veh icle can lead to loss
of brak ing effectiven ess.
