THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE

Rearw ard -facing child seats must NEVER be used in
the front seat of a vehicle with a front passenger
airbag. An airbag deploym ent could cause severe
injury or death to infants in this position.
(Some booster seats are equ ipped with a front shield
and are held in the vehicle by the lap portion.)

Child ren who weigh more than 20 lbs (9 kg) and who
are older than one year can rid e forw ard -facing in the
vehicle. Forw ard -facing child seats and convertible
child seats used in the forw ard -facing direction are for
child ren who weigh 20 to 40 lbs (9 to 18 kg), and are
older than one year old. These child seats are also held
in the vehicle by the lap/ shou lder belt.

The belt-p ositioning booster seat is for child ren weigh-
ing more than 40 lbs (18 kg), but who are still too small
to fit the vehicle’s seat belts prop erly. If the child
cannot sit with knees bent over the seat cushion while
the child ’s back is against the seatback, they need a
belt-p ositioning booster seat. The child and booster
seat are held in the vehicle by the lap/ shou lder belt.

restrain t in the fron t seat may be stru ck by a
deployin g passen ger airb ag which may cause se-
vere or fatal to the infan t.
