TheSafetyCanopy™system,incombinationwithsafetybelts,canhelp
reducetheriskofsevereinjuriesintheeventofasignificantsideimpact
collisionorrolloverevent.
Children12yearsoldandundershouldalwaysbeproperlyrestrainedin
thesecondorthirdrowseats(ifequipped).TheSafetyCanopy™will
notinterferewithchildrenrestrainedusingaproperlyinstalledchildor
boosterseatbecauseitisdesignedtoinflatedownwardfromthe
headlinerabovethedoorsalongthesidewindowopenings.
TheSafetyCanopy™systemisdesignedtoactivatewhenthevehicle
sustainslateraldecelerationsufficienttocausethesidecrashsensorto
closeanelectricalcircuitthatinitiatesSafetyCanopy™inflationorwhen
acertainlikelihoodofarollovereventisdetectedbytherolloversensor.
TheSafetyCanopy™ismountedtotheroofside-railsheetmetal,behind
theheadliner,abovethefirstandsecondrowseats.Incertainlateral
collisionsorrolloverevents,theSafetyCanopy™systemwillbe
activated,regardlessofwhichseatsareoccupied.TheSafetyCanopy™
isdesignedtoinflatebetweenthesidewindowareaandoccupantsto
furtherenhanceprotectionprovidedinsideimpactcollisionsandrollover
events.
ThefactthattheSafetyCanopy™systemdidnotactivateinacollision
doesnotmeanthatsomethingiswrongwiththesystem.Rather,it
meanstheforceswerenotofthetypesufficienttocauseactivation.The
SafetyCanopy™isdesignedtoinflateincertainsideimpactcollisionsor
rolloverevents,notinrearimpact,frontalornear-frontalcollisions,
unlessthecollisioncausessufficientlateraldecelerationorrollover
likelihood.
SeveralSafetyCanopy™systemcomponentsgethotafter
inflation.Donottouchthemafterinflation.
