IfyourvehicleisequippedwithAWD,asparetireofadifferent
sizethantheroadtiresshouldneverbeused.Suchatirecould
makethevehicledifficulttocontrolaswellasresultindamageto
drivelinecomponents.
Utilityandfour-wheeldrivevehiclesarenotdesignedfor
corneringatspeedsashighaspassengercarsanymorethan
low-slungsportscarsaredesignedtoperformsatisfactorilyunder
off-roadconditions.Avoidsharpturnsorabruptmaneuversinthese
vehicles.
Normal operation (4.0L engine vehicles only)
TheAWDsystemisalwaysactiveandrequiresnodriverinput.Itis
capableofhandlingallroadconditions,includingstreetandhighway
drivingaswellasoff-roadconditionssuchasdeepsnow,iceorshallow
sand.
Normal operation (4.6L engine vehicles only)
DuringnormaloperationtheAWDsystemisinAWDAUTOmode(AWD
LOCKEDwillilluminateinthemessagecenterforfoursecondswhen
youfirststartyourvehicle).The4X4indicatorintheinstrumentcluster
willalsocomeon.
ForinstructionsonselectingtheAWDLOCKEDmode,refertoMessage
centerintheDriverControlschapter.Thismodeisnotintendedforuse
ondrypavement.Thismodeisappropriateforseverewinteroroff-road
conditionssuchasdeepsnow,iceorshallowsand.TheuseofAWD
LOCKEDondryorhardsurfacesmayproducesomenoise,suchas
occasionalclunks,butwillnotdamagethedrivesystem.
Autolock operation (4.6L engine vehicles only)
IftheAWDsystembeginstooverheat,thesystemwillplaceitselfinthe
Autolockmode:

AWDDISABLED<LOCKED>willbedisplayedinthemessagecenter.
AWDLOCKEDwillbedisplayedinthemessagecenterforfour
secondsandawarningchimewillsound.Thisconditionmayclear
withoutanyactionbeingtakenbythedriver.
