TRAILER TOWING
Trailertowingwithyourvehiclemayrequiretheuseofatrailertow
optionpackage.
Trailertowingputsadditionalloadsonyourvehicle’sengine,
transmission,axle,brakes,tires,andsuspension.Foryoursafetyandto
maximizevehicleperformance,besuretousetheproperequipment
whiletowing.
Followtheseguidelinestoensuresafetowingprocedure:
Donottowatraileruntilyourvehiclehasbeendrivenatleast1,000
miles(1600km).
Staywithinyourvehicle’sloadlimits.
Thoroughlyprepareyourvehiclefortowing.RefertoPreparingto
towinthischapter.
Useextracautionwhendrivingwhiletrailertowing.RefertoDriving
whileyoutowinthischapter.
Serviceyourvehiclemorefrequentlyifyoutowatrailer.Refertothe
severedutyscheduleinthescheduledmaintenanceinformation.
Refertotheinstructionsincludedwithtowingaccessoriesforthe
properinstallationandadjustmentspecifications.
DonotexceedthemaximumloadslistedontheSafetyCompliance
Certificationlabel.Forloadspecificationtermsfoundonthelabel,refer
toVehicleloadinginthischapterwhenfiguringthetotalweightofyour
vehicle.
YourvehicleisequippedwithastandardClassIIintegratedhitchand
requiresonlyadrawbarandballwitha19mm(3/4inch)shank
diameter.AnoptionalClassIII/ClassIVhitchisalsoavailable.
Note:DonotexceedtheGVWRortheGAWRspecifiedonthe
certificationlabel.
Towingtrailersbeyondthemaximumrecommendedgrosstrailer
weightexceedsthelimitofthevehicleandcouldresultin
enginedamage,transmissiondamage,structuraldamage,lossofvehicle
control,vehiclerolloverandpersonalinjury.
