Adding engine coolant
Whenaddingcoolant,makesureitisa50/50mixtureofenginecoolant
anddistilledwater.Addthemixturetothecoolantreservoir,whenthe
engineiscool,untiltheappropriatefilllevelisobtained.
Donotaddenginecoolantwhentheengineishot.Steamand
scaldingliquidsreleasedfromahotcoolingsystemcanburnyou
badly.Also,youcanbeburnedifyouspillcoolantonhotengineparts.
Donotputenginecoolantinthewindshieldwasherfluid
container.Ifsprayedonthewindshield,enginecoolantcould
makeitdifficulttoseethroughthewindshield.

Note:UseofMotorcraftCoolingSystemStopLeakPelletsoran

darkenthecolorofMotorcraftPremiumGoldEngineCoolantfrom
yellowtogoldentan.

Donotadd/mixanorange-colored,extendedlifecoolantsuch
asMotorcraftSpecialtyOrangeEngineCoolant,meetingFord
specificationWSS-M97B44-D,orDEX-COOLbrandwiththe
factory-filledcoolant.MixingMotorcraftSpecialtyOrangeEngine
Coolantoranyorange-coloredextendedlifeproductsuchas
DEX-COOLbrandwithyourfactoryfilledcoolantcanresultin
degradedcorrosionprotection.
Alargeamountofwaterwithoutenginecoolantmaybeadded,incase
ofemergency,toreachavehicleservicelocation.Inthisinstance,the
coolingsystemmustbedrainedandrefilledwitha50/50mixtureof
enginecoolantanddistilledwaterassoonaspossible.Wateralone
(withoutenginecoolant)cancauseenginedamagefromcorrosion,
overheatingorfreezing.

Donotusealcohol,methanol,brineoranyenginecoolants
mixedwithalcoholormethanolantifreeze(coolant).Alcohol
andotherliquidscancauseenginedamagefromoverheatingor
freezing.
Donotaddextrainhibitorsoradditivestothecoolant.These
canbeharmfulandcompromisethecorrosionprotectionoftheengine
coolant.
