WARNING:TheEPShasdiagnosticschecksthatcontinuously
monitortheEPStoensureproperoperationoftheelectronic
system.Whenanelectronicerrorisdetected,themessagePOWER
STEERINGASSISTFAULTwillbedisplayedinthemessagecenter.If
thishappens,stopthevehicleinasafeplaceandturnofftheengine.
Afteratleast10seconds,resetthesystembyrestartingtheengine,
andwatchthemessagecenterforPOWERSTEERINGASSISTFAULT.
Ifthemessagereturns,orreturnswhiledriving,takethevehicleto
yourdealertohaveitchecked.Withthemessagedisplayed,the
steeringassististurnedoff,makingthevehiclehardertosteer.
Ifthesteeringwandersorpulls,checkfor:

animproperlyinflatedtire.
uneventirewear.
looseorwornsuspensioncomponents.
looseorwornsteeringcomponents.
impropersteeringalignment.
Ahighcrownintheroadorhighcrosswindsmayalsomakethesteering
seemtowander/pull.
Speed sensitive steering
Thesteeringinyourvehicleisspeedsensitive.Atlowerspeedstheassist
isincreasedtoimprovemaneuverability.
Iftheamountofeffortrequiredtosteeryourvehiclechangeswhile
drivingataconstantvehiclespeed,havethepowersteeringsystem
checkedbyyourauthorizeddealer.
BRAKE-SHIFT INTERLOCK
Thisvehicleisequippedwithabrake-shiftinterlockfeaturethatprevents
thegearshiftleverfrombeingmovedfromP(Park)whentheignitionis
intheonpositionunlessthebrakepedalispressed.
IfyoucannotmovethegearshiftleveroutofP(Park)withignitionin
theonpositionandthebrakepedalpressed,itispossiblethatafusehas
blownorthevehicle’sbrakelampsarenotoperatingproperly.Referto
FusesandrelaysintheRoadsideEmergencieschapter.
