Childrenandboosterseatsvaryinsizeandshape.Chooseaboosterthat
keepsthelapbeltlowandsnugacrossthehips,neverupacrossthe
stomach,andletsyouadjusttheshoulderbelttocrossthechestandrest
snuglynearthecenteroftheshoulder.Thedrawingsbelowcomparethe
idealfit(center)toashoulderbeltuncomfortablyclosetotheneckanda
shoulderbeltthatcouldslipofftheshoulder.Thedrawingsbelowalso
showhowthelapbeltshouldbelowandsnugacrossthechild’ships.
Iftheboosterseatslidesonthevehicleseat,placingarubberizedmesh
soldasshelforcarpetlinerundertheboosterseatmayimprovethis
condition.Donotintroduceanyitemthickerthanthisunderthebooster
seat.Checkwiththeboosterseatmanufacturer’sinstructions.
Theimportanceofshoulderbelts
Usingaboosterwithoutashoulderbeltincreasestheriskofachild’s
headhittingahardsurfaceinacollision.Forthisreason,youshould
neveruseaboosterseatwithalapbeltonly.Itisgenerallybesttousea
boosterseatwithlap/shoulderbeltsinthebackseat.
Moveachildtoadifferentseatinglocationiftheshoulderbeltdoesnot
staypositionedontheshoulderduringuse.
