TheOBD-IIsystemisdesignedtochecktheemissioncontrolsystem
duringnormaldriving.Acompletecheckmaytakeseveraldays.Ifthe
vehicleisnotreadyforI/Mtesting,thefollowingdrivingcycleconsisting
ofmixedcityandhighwaydrivingmaybeperformed:

minutesofsteadydrivingonanexpressway/highwayfollowedby
minutesofstop-and-godrivingwithatleastfour30-secondidle
periods.
Allowthevehicletositforatleasteighthourswithoutstartingthe
engine.Then,starttheengineandcompletetheabovedrivingcycle.The
enginemustwarmuptoitsnormaloperatingtemperature.Oncestarted,
donotturnofftheengineuntiltheabovedrivingcycleiscomplete.If
thevehicleisstillnotreadyforI/Mtesting,theabovedrivingcyclewill
havetoberepeated.

theleveluntilitreachestherangebetweentheMINandMAXlines.Be
suretoputthecapbackonthereservoir.RefertoMaintenance
productspecificationsandcapacitiesinthischapterfortheproper
fluidtype.
