TheseTireQualityGradesaredeterminedbystandardsthattheUnited
StatesDepartmentofTransportationhasset.
TireQualityGradesapplytonewpneumaticpassengercartires.Theydo
notapplytodeeptread,winter-typesnowtires,space-saveror
temporaryusesparetires,lighttruckor“LT”typetires,tireswith
nominalrimdiametersof10to12inchesorlimitedproductiontiresas
definedinTitle49CodeofFederalRegulationsPart575.104(c)(2).

thefollowinginformationabouttiregradesexactlyasthegovernment
haswrittenit.
Treadwear
Thetreadweargradeisacomparativeratingbasedonthewearrateof
thetirewhentestedundercontrolledconditionsonaspecified
governmenttestcourse.Forexample,atiregraded150wouldwearone
andone-half(1 ⁄ )timesaswellonthegovernmentcourseasatire

graded100.Therelativeperformanceoftiresdependsupontheactual
conditionsoftheiruse,however,andmaydepartsignificantlyfromthe
normduetovariationsindrivinghabits,servicepractices,and
differencesinroadcharacteristicsandclimate.
Traction AA A B C
Thetractiongrades,fromhighesttolowestareAA,A,B,andC.Thegrades
representthetire’sabilitytostoponwetpavementasmeasuredunder
controlledconditionsonspecifiedgovernmenttestsurfacesofasphaltand
concrete.AtiremarkedCmayhavepoortractionperformance.
WARNING:Thetractiongradeassignedtothistireisbasedon
straight-aheadbrakingtractiontests,anddoesnotinclude
acceleration,cornering,hydroplaningorpeaktractioncharacteristics.
