ALL-WHEEL DRIVE (AWD) SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)
Yourvehiclemaybeequippedwithafull-timeAll-WheelDrive(AWD)
system.TheAWDsystemisanactivesystem,meaningitnotonly
respondstowheelslipbetweenthefrontandrearaxlesbutalsohasthe
abilitytoanticipatewheelslipandtransfertorquetotherearwheels
beforeslipoccurs.TheAWDsystemisactiveallthetimeandrequiresno
inputfromtheoperator.
AllcomponentsoftheAWDsystemaresealedforlifeandrequireno
maintenance.
Note:WhenanAWDsystemfaultispresent,thewarningCHECKAWD
willdisplayinthemessagecenter.TheAWDsystemisnotfunctioning
correctlyanddefaultedtofrontwheeldrive.Whenthiswarningis
displayed,haveyourvehicleservicedatanauthorizeddealer
IfyourvehicleisequippedwithAWD,asparetireofadifferentsize
otherthanthetireprovidedshouldneverbeused.Ifthesparetireis
installed,theAWDsystemmaydisableautomaticallyandenterfront
wheeldriveonlymodetoprotectdrivelinecomponents.Thiscondition
maybeindicatedbyanAWDOFFmessageinthemessagecenter(see
MessagecenterintheInstrumentClusterchapterformore
information).IfthereisanAWDOFFmessageinthemessagecenter
fromusingthesparetire,thisindicatorshouldturnoffafterreinstalling
therepairedorreplacednormalroadtireanddrivingashortdistance.It
isrecommendedtoreinstalltherepairedorreplacedroadtireassoonas
possible.Majordissimilartiresizesbetweenthefrontandrearaxles
couldcausetheAWDsystemtostopfunctioninganddefaulttofront
wheeldriveorcausedamagetotheAWDsystem.
Note:TheAWDOFFmessagemayalsobedisplayedinthemessage
centeriftheAWDsystemhasoverheatedanddefaultedtofrontwheel
drive.Thisconditionmayoccurifthevehiclewasoperatedinextreme
conditionswithexcessivewheelslip,suchasdeepsand.Toresume
normalAWDfunctionassoonaspossible,stopthevehicleinasafe
locationandallowittoidle.TheAWDOFFmessagewillturnoffwhen
thesystemcoolsandnormalAWDfunctionreturns.
Note:YourAWDvehicleisnotintendedforoff-roaduse.TheAWD
featuregivesyourvehiclesomelimitedoff-roadcapabilitiesinwhich
drivingsurfacesarerelativelylevel,obstruction-freeandotherwise
similartonormalon-roaddrivingconditions.Operatingyourvehicle
underotherthanthoseconditionscouldsubjectthevehicletoexcessive
stresswhichmightresultindamagewhichisnotcoveredunderyour
warranty.
