Wheninflatingyourtires
Whenputtingairintoyourtires(suchasatagasstationorinyour
garage),thetirepressuremonitoringsystemmaynotrespond
immediatelytotheairaddedtoyourtires.
Itmaytakeuptotwominutesofdrivingover20mph(32km/h)forthe
lighttoturnoffafteryouhavefilledyourtirestotherecommended
inflationpressure.
Howtemperatureaffectsyourtirepressure
Thetirepressuremonitoringsystem(TPMS)monitorstirepressurein
eachpneumatictire.Whiledrivinginanormalmanner,atypical
passengertireinflationpressuremayincreaseapproximately2to4psi
(14
to28kPa)fromacoldstartsituation.Ifthevehicleisstationary
overnightwiththeoutsidetemperaturesignificantlylowerthanthe
daytimetemperature,thetirepressuremaydecreaseapproximately3psi
(21
kPa)foradropof30°F(17°C)inambienttemperature.Thislower
pressurevaluemaybedetectedbytheTPMSasbeingsignificantlylower
thantherecommendedinflationpressureandactivatetheTPMSwarning
lightforlowtirepressure.Ifthelowtirepressurewarninglightison,
visuallycheckeachtiretoverifythatnotireisflat.(Ifoneormoretires
areflat,repairasnecessary.)Checkairpressureintheroadtires.Ifany
tireisunder-inflated,carefullydrivethevehicletothenearestlocation
whereaircanbeaddedtothetires.Inflateallthetirestothe
recommendedinflationpressure.
