Rearaxlesandpowertake-off(PTO)unitscontainingsyntheticfluidandlightdutytrucksequippedwithFord-designaxles
arelubricatedforlife.Thesefluidsarenottobecheckedorchangedunlessaleakissuspected,serviceisrequiredorthe
axleassemblyhasbeensubmergedinwater.TheaxleandPTOfluidsshouldbechangedanytimetheaxleandPTOhave
beensubmergedinwater.Duringextendedtrailertowoperationabove70°F(21°C)ambientandwideopenthrottlefor
extendedperiodsabove45mph(72km/h),non-syntheticrearaxlefluidsshouldbechangedevery3,000miles
(4,800
km)orthreemonths,whicheveroccursfirst.The3,000mile(4,800km)fluidchangeintervalmaybewaivedif
theaxlewasfilledwith75W140syntheticgearfluidmeetingFordspecificationWSL-M2C192-A,partnumberF1TZ-19580-B
orequivalent.Addfrictionmodifier   XL-3(EST-M2C118-A)orequivalentforcompleterefillofTraction-Lokrearaxles(referto
MaintenanceproductspecificationsandcapacitiesintheMaintenanceandSpecificationschapterfordetails).Theaxlefluid
shouldbechangedanytimeanaxlehasbeensubmergedinwater.

fourounces(118mL)offrictionmodifierXL-3(EST-M2C118-A)orequivalentforcompleterefillofTraction-Lokrearaxles.
Theaxlefluidshouldbechangedanytimetheaxlehasbeensubmergedinwater.
Californiafuelfilterreplacement
IfthevehicleisregisteredinCalifornia,theCaliforniaAirResourcesBoardhasdeterminedthatthefailuretoperformthis
maintenanceitemwillnotnullifytheemissionwarrantyorlimitrecallliabilitypriortothecompletionofthevehicle’suseful
life.FordMotorCompany,however,urgesyoutohaveallrecommendedmaintenanceservicesperformedatthespecified
intervalsandtorecordallvehicleservice.
Hotclimateoilchangeintervals
Ifoperatingconditionsarenormalandyoudriveyourvehicleundertypical,everydayconditionsandyouareusinganAPI
performancecategoryoilofSLorlater(forexampleSM,etc.)thenyoucanfollowthe7,500mile(12,000km)normal
serviceoilchangeintervalsschedule.VehiclesoperatingintheMiddleEast,NorthAfrica,Sub-SaharanAfricaorlocationswith
similarclimatesmustfollowtheoilchangeintervalof3,000mile(4,800km)iftheownerisusingoilsdefinedbythe
AmericanPetroleumInstitute(API)performancecategoryofAPISKorearlier(forexampleSJ,etc.).
Engineairfilter&cabinairfilterreplacement

Engineairfilterandcabinairfilterlifeisdependentonexposuretodustyanddirtyconditions.Vehiclesoperatedinthese
conditionswillrequirefrequentinspectionandreplacementoftheengineairfilterandcabinairfilter.
