R)andalltheCommandShift™gears.
WheninD,thevehiclewillselectthemost
appropriategear.
Note:Eachgearhasapredetermined
maximumspeed.
Forvehicleswithamanualgearbox,the
HDCcanbeusedin1st,2ndandreverse
gears.
Note:Thevehicle'sspeedwillonly
increaseonaslopesteepenoughto
increasemomentum.Useofthe(+ )switch
maythereforenotincreasethevehicle's
speedonagentleslope.
Note:HDCisautomaticallyselectedby
someoftheTerrainResponsespecial
programs.
3. Decreasethedescentspeed:TheCruise
control(-)buttonwilldecreasetheHDC
descentspeedin1km/h(0.6mph)
increments.Pressandholdthe(- )button
forlargerincrementalincreases,downto
theminimumpermissibletargetspeed.
Note:HDCisautomaticallydeselectedif
theignitionisswitchedoffformorethan6
hours.
Ifthesystemoperationcriteriahavenot
beenmet,theHDCwarninglampwillflash
toindicatethatthesystemhasbeen
selectedbutisnotoperating.See46,HILL
DESCENTCONTROL(GREEN).
Note:Eachgearhasapredetermined
minimumspeed.
IfafaultisdetectedintheHDCsystem,HDC
FAULTSYSTEMNOTAVAILABLEwillappearin
theMessagecentreandHDCassistancewill
fadeout.
Agraphicwillalsobedisplayedinthe
MessagecentreshowingtheHDCtarget
speed.WhenHDCisunabletooperate,the
displaywillbegrey.Thegraphicindicates
therangeoftargetspeedsavailableinthe
currentlyselectedgear.
Ifthefaultisdetectedwhilethesystemis
operating,HDCassistancewillfadeout.
ContactaDealer/AuthorisedRepairerassoon
aspossible.
IfHDCisdeselectedwhileoperating,the
warninglampwillextinguishandthe
systemwillfadeout,allowingthevehicle's
speedtograduallyincrease.
IfHDCisalreadyselectedandthevehicle's
speedexceeds50km/h(31mph),HDCis
suspended.TheHDCindicatorwillflash
andamessagewillappearintheMessage
centre.
