pedalwhilethevehicleisinmotion.
Ifthedriverrapidlyappliesthebrakes,theEBA
systemwillautomaticallyboostthebraking
forcetoitsmaximum,inordertobringthe
vehicletoahaltasquicklyaspossible.Ifthe
driverappliesthebrakesslowly,butdriving
conditionsmeanthattheAnti-lockBraking
System(ABS)operatesonthefrontwheels,the
EBAsystemwillincreasethebrakingforcein
ordertoapplyABScontroltotherearwheels.
Neverallowthevehicletocoast
(freewheel)withtheengineturnedoff.
Theenginemustberunningtoprovide
fullbrakingassistance.Thebrakes
willstillfunctionwiththeengineoff,
butfarmorepressurewillberequired
tooperatethem.
TheEBAsystemstopsoperatingassoonasthe
brakepedalisreleased.
Iftheredbrakewarningindicator
illuminates,safelybringthevehicleto
astop,asquicklyaspossibleand
seekqualifiedassistance.
AfaultwiththeEBAsystemisindicatedbythe
amberbrakewarninglampilluminatingandan
associatedwarningmessage.See44,BRAKE
(AMBER).Gentlyandsafelystopthevehicle
andseekqualifiedassistance.
Neverplacenon-approvedfloor
mattingoranyotherobstructions
underthebrakepedal.Thisrestricts
pedaltravelandbrakingefficiency.
ELECTRONICBRAKEFORCE
DISTRIBUTION(EBD)
TheEBDsystemcontrolsthebalanceof
brakingforcessuppliedtothefrontandrear
wheels,inordertomaintainmaximumbraking
efficiency.
Drivingthroughheavyrainorwatercanhave
anadverseeffectonbrakingefficiency.Under
suchcircumstances,itisrecommendedthat
youlightlyapplythebrakesintermittently,to
drythebrakes.
STEEPSLOPES
Ifthevehiclehasalightload(onlythedriverin
thevehicleforexample),TheEBDsystemwill
reducethebrakingforceappliedtotherear
wheels.Ifthevehicleisheavilyladen,TheEBD
systemwillallowgreaterbrakingforcetothe
rearwheels.
Ifthevehicleisstationaryonasteep,slippery
slope,itmaybegintoslideevenwiththe
brakesapplied.Thisisbecausewithoutwheel
rotation,theABScannotdeterminevehicle
movement.
AfaultwiththeEBDsystemisindicatedbythe
redbrakewarninglampilluminatingandan
associatedwarningmessage.See43,BRAKE
(RED).Gentlyandsafelystopthevehicleand
seekqualifiedassistance.
Tocounteractthis,brieflyreleasethebrakesto
allowsomewheelrotation.Thenre-applythe
brakestoallowABStogaincontrol.
