Inhotclimatesmorefrequentchecksofthelow
maintenancebatteryelectrolyteleveland
conditionarerequired.Ifnecessary,thebattery
cellscanbetoppedupusingdistilledwater.
Alwayswearappropriateeye
protectionwhenworkingwith
batteries.
Tochecktheelectrolytelevel,firstremovethe
batterycover.See196,UNDERBONNET
COVERS-REMOVAL.
Neverjumpstart,charge,ortryto
startavehiclewithafrozenbattery.
Doingsocanresultinanexplosion.
Duringnormaluse,batteriesemit
explosivegassufficienttocause
severeexplosionsandcapableof
causingseriousinjury-keepsparks
andnakedlightsawayfromtheengine
compartment.
Makesurethereisnophysicalcontact
betweenthedonoranddisabled
vehiclesotherthanthejumpleads.

Unscrewthe6batterycellplugsandstore
carefully.
Makesurethattheslavebatteryor
startingaidisa12voltdevice.
Checkthesurfaceleveloftheliquid
(electrolyte)ineachcellislevelwiththe
plasticlevelindicator.Ifnecessary,topup
withdistilledwater.
Disconnectthejumpleadspriorto
operatinganyelectricalequipment.
Note:Beforeconnectingjumpleadsmakesure
thebatteryconnectionsonthedisabledvehicle
arecorrectandthatallelectricalequipmenthas
beenswitchedoff.
Donotoverfillthebattery.

Refitthe6batterycellplugs.

Refitthebatterycover.See196,UNDER
BONNETCOVERS-REFITTING.
Thebatterycovermustberefittedas
soonaspossibletomakesurethe
batterypositiveterminalisinsulated.
CONNECTINGJUMPLEADS
Rotatingpartsoftheenginecancause
seriousinjury.Takeextremecare
whenworkingnearrotatingpartsof
theengine.
