TheIntelligentstop/startsystemisdesignedto
improvefuelefficiencyandisautomatically
activatedwhentheignitionisturnedon.Unless
itisrequiredtosupportothervehiclesystems,
theenginewillturnoffifthevehicleisstopped,
forexampleattrafficlights.Whenthebrake
pedalisreleasedandadrivegearisselected,
theenginewillrestartautomatically.
Thefollowingconditionswillpreventan
automaticenginestop:
Anautomatictransmissionshiftpaddlehas
beenusedtoselectagear.
Theexternaltemperatureislessthan
approximately0°C(32°F).
Theexternaltemperatureismorethan
approximately40°C(104°F).
Theenginehasnotreachedoperating
temperature.
DuringoperationoftheIntelligentstop/start
systemawarninglampwillilluminate.See47,
INTELLIGENTSTOP/START(GREEN).
Toactivateanautomaticenginestop:
Stopthevehiclefromaspeedgreaterthan
km/h(2.5mph)andapplysufficient
brakepressuretomakesurethevehicleis
stationary.Formanualtransmissions,
neutralmustalsobeselectedandthe
clutchpedalfullyreleased.
Alternatively,whilestationary,select
neutral.Alsofullyreleasetheclutchpedal
formanualtransmissions.
Thedriver’sseatbeltisnotfastened.

Theclimatecontrolsystemdemand
requirestheenginetoberunning(for
example,inDefrostmode).
Thebatterychargeislow.
Thebonnetisopened.
Intelligentstop/startisdeactivated.
DEACTIVATINGINTELLIGENT
STOP/START
Toswitchthesystemoff,presstheECOswitch.
See298,DRIVERCONTROLS.
Toactivateanautomaticenginerestartrelease
thebrakepedalwithDrive(D)orSport(S)
selected.Formanualtransmissions,theengine
willrestartwhentheclutchpedalisfully
pressed,priortoengagingagear.
Note:Theenginewillrestartautomaticallyif
theswitchispressedwhileanautomatic
enginestopisinprogress.
Theenginewillalsorestartifoneofthe
followingoccurs:
Intelligentstop/startisdeactivated.
Theacceleratorpedalispressed.
Anautomatictransmissionshiftpaddleis
usedtoselectagear.
Reversegearisselected.
Climatecontrolsystemdemandincreases.
Toconfirmthatthesystemisoff,themessage
ECOStop/StartOffismomentarilydisplayedin
theMessagecentre.
Note:Theintelligentstop/startsystemwill
automaticallyreactivatethenexttimethe
ignitionisturnedon.
IftheECOswitchispressedwhilethereisa
fault,themessageEcoStop/StartNot
Availableisdisplayed.
Thevehicle’sspeedexceedsapproximately
1
km/h(0.5mph).
Batterychargebecomeslow.
