releasetheEPBswitch.Thiswillapplythe
EPB.Theparkingbrakewarninglampwill
illuminatetoindicatethattheparkingbrake
isapplied.See44,PARKINGBRAKE
(RED).
DonotrelyontheElectricParking
Brake(EPB)toholdthevehicle
stationaryifthebrakewarninglampis
illuminatedortheEPBwarninglamp
isflashing.Seekqualifiedassistance
urgently.
IfthesystemdetectsafaultwhiletheEPBis
operating,theredparkingbrakewarninglamp
willflash,accompaniedbyawarninginthe
Messagecentre.
TheEPBsystemoperatesontherear
wheels.Therefore,secureparkingof
thevehicleisdependentonbeingona
hardandstablesurface.
IfthesystemdetectsafaultwiththeEPB
system,theamberbrakewarninglampwill
illuminateaccompaniedbyawarninginthe
Messagecentre.See44,BRAKE(AMBER).
DonotrelyontheEPBtooperate
effectively,iftherearwheelshavebeen
immersedinmudorwater.
Note:Theredparkingbrakewarninglampwill
continuetobeilluminatedforatleastten
secondsaftertheignitionhasbeenturnedoff.
Note:Ifthevehicleisusedinsevereoff-road
conditions(e.g.wading,deepmud,etc.),extra
maintenanceandadjustmentoftheEPBwillbe
required.ConsultaDealer/AuthorisedRepairer
formoreinformation.
IftheEPBisoperatedwhenthevehicle'sspeed
islessthan3km/h(2mph),thevehiclewillbe
broughttoanabruptstop.Thestoplampswill
notbeilluminated.
Drivingthevehiclewiththeparking
brakeapplied,orrepeateduseofthe
parkingbraketoslowthevehicle,may
causeseriousdamagetothebrake
system.
Inanemergency,withthevehicletravellingat
morethan3km/h(2mph),pullinguponthe
EPBswitchandholding,givesagradual
reductioninthespeed.Thebrakewarninglamp
willilluminateaccompaniedbyawarningtone
andawarningmessageintheMessagecentre.
Thestoplampswillilluminate.See43,BRAKE
(RED).
Note:AutomaticreleaseoftheEPBisonly
possiblewhenthedriver’sdoorisfullyclosed
orthedriver’sseatbeltisbuckled.
Todelaytheautomaticrelease,holdtheEPB
switchintheappliedpositionandreleaseitat
thedesiredpoint.TheEPBsystemgradually
releasestoassistinasmoothdriveaway.

Withtheignitionturnedon,depressthe
brakepedal,thenpressdownandrelease
theEPBswitch.ThiswillreleasetheEPB.
