NOTE: To improve the vehicle’s traction when driving
with snow chains, or starting off in deep snow, sand , or
gravel, it may be desirable to switch to the “Partial Off”
mode by pressing the ESP switch. Once the situ ation
requ iring ESP to be switched to the “Partial Off” mode is
overcom e, turn ESP back on by momentarily depressing
the “ESP Control Switch”. This may be done while the
vehicle is in motion.
sou nd , the ЉESP/ TCS Ind icator LightЉ will illuminate,
and the ЉESP OFFЉ message will appear in the odometer.
Refer to “Com pass and Mini-Trip Com puter — If
Equipped” in Section 4 of this manu al. To turn ESP on
again, momentarily depress the ЉESP Control SwitchЉ.
This will restore the norm al “ESP On” mode of operation.

NOTE: The ESP system will change to “Partial Off”
mode if the vehicle speed exceed s 40 mph (64 km/ h).
After the vehicle speed is red uced below 35 mph (56
km/ h), the ESP system will retu rn to “Full Off” mode.
ESP Off (4WD High Range Only)
This mode is intend ed for off-highw ay or off-road use
when ESP stability featu res could inhibit vehicle maneu -
verability due to trail cond itions. This mode is entered by
depressing and hold ing the “ESP Control Switch” for 5
second s when the vehicle is stop ped and the engine is
running. In this mode, all ESP and TCS stability featu res
are turned off excep t for the “lim ited slip” featu re de-
scribed in the TCS section. After 5 second s, a chim e will

audible chim e will sou nd when the gear selector is
placed into the “P” (Park) position from any position
other than “P” (Park), and then moved out of the “P”
(Park) position. This will occur even if the message was
previou sly cleared .
