Cooling System
The best protection against carbon monoxid e entry into
the vehicle bod y is a prop erly maintained engine exhau st
system .
WARN ING!
You or oth ers can be badly burned by hot antifreeze/
coolan t or steam from you r rad iator. If you see or hear
steam coming from under the hood , don’t open the
hood until the rad iator has had tim e to cool. Never
try to open a coolin g system pressu re cap when the
rad iator or coolan t bottle is hot.
If you notice a change in the sou nd of the exhau st system ;
or if the exhau st fumes can be detected insid e the vehicle;
or when the und ersid e or rear of the vehicle is damaged ;
have an authorized technician insp ect the complete ex-
hau st system and adjacent bod y areas for broken, dam-
aged , deteriorated , or mispositioned parts. Open seam s
or loose connections could perm it exhau st fumes to seep
into the passenger compartm ent. In addition, insp ect the
exhau st system each time the vehicle is raised for lubri-
cation or oil change. Replace as requ ired .
Engin e Coolan t Checks
Check antifreeze/ coolant protection every 12 months
(before the onset of freezing weather, where applicable).
If antifreeze/ coolant is dirty or rusty in appearance, the
system shou ld be drained , flushed and refilled with fresh
antifreeze/ coolant. Check the front of the A/ C cond enser
(if equ ipped) or rad iator for any accumulation of bugs,
leaves, etc. If dirty, clean by gently spraying water from a
