WHAT TO DO IN EMERGENCIES
JUMP STARTING
1. Remove all metal jewelry such as watch band s or
bracelets which might make an unintend ed electrical
contact.
If the vehicle has a discharged battery, booster cables may
be used to obtain a start from a booster battery or the
battery in another vehicle. This type of start can be danger-
ous if done improperly, so follow this procedure carefully.

Park the booster vehicle within cable reach but with-
out letting the vehicles tou ch. Set the parking brake on
both vehicles, place the autom atic transm ission in P
(Park), or the manu al transm ission in N (Neutral), and
turn the ignition OFF.
WARN ING!
Battery flu id is a corrosive acid solu tion ; do not allow
battery flu id to contact eyes, skin or cloth ing. Don’t lean
over battery when attach ing clam ps or allow the clam ps
to tou ch each oth er. If acid splash es in eyes or on skin,
flu sh contam inated area immediately with large quan-
tities of water.

Turn off the heater, rad io, and all unnecessary electri-
cal load s.

Connect one end of a jumper cable to the positive
term inal of the booster battery. Connect the other end of
the sam e cable to the positive term inal of the discharged
battery.
A battery gen erates hydrogen gas which is flam mable
and explosive. Keep flam e or spark away from the ven t
holes.
Do not use a booster battery or any oth er booster sou rce
that has a greater than 12 volt system , i.e. Do not use a 24
volt power sou rce.
