STARTING PROCEDURES
4WD Models Only
Before starting you r vehicle, adjust you r seat, adjust both
insid e and outsid e mirrors, and fasten you r seat belts.
In 4L mode, this vehicle will start regard less of whether
or not the clutch pedal is pressed to the floor. This featu re
enhances off-road perform ance by allow ing the vehicle to
start when in 4L withou t having to depress the clutch
pedal. The “4WD Ind icator Light” will illuminate when
the transfer case has been shifted into this mode.
WARN ING!
Never leave child ren alon e in a veh icle. Leavin g
child ren in a veh icle unatten ded is dangerou s for a
number of reason s. A child or oth ers could be seri-
ously or fatally injured . Do not leave the keys in the
ign ition . A child could operate power windows,
oth er controls, or move the veh icle.
Automatic Transmission
Start the engine with the selector lever in the N (Neutral) 5
or P (Park) position. Apply the brake before shifting to
any driving range.
Normal Starting
Norm al starting of either a cold or a warm engine is
obtained withou t pumping or depressing the accelerator
pedal. Turn the key to the START position and release
when the engine starts. If the engine fails to start within
Manual Transmission
Apply the parking brake, place the gearshift control lever
in N (Neutral) and depress the clutch pedal before
starting vehicle. This vehicle is equ ipped with a clutch
interlocking ignition system . It will not start unless the
clutch pedal is pressed to the floor.
