After initial calibration, the compass will continu e to
autom atically update this calibration whenever the ve-
hicle is in motion.
und er 5 mph (8 km/ h) in an area free from large metal
objects until the CAL sym bol is extingu ished .
When the CAL sym bol no longer is displayed , the
compass is calibrated and shou ld display correct head -
ings. Verify prop er calibration by checking North (N),
South (S), East (E), and West (W). If the compass does not
appear accurate, rep eat the calibration proced ure in an-
other area.
Manual Com pass Calib ration
NOTE: Before attem ptin g a manual compass calib ra-
tion , the engin e must be running and the tran smission
in the P (Park ) position (if equipped).
Com pass calibration can also be requ ested . To manu ally
calibrate the compass, you must first enter the variance
mode. Press the and hold the left button (located on the
instru ment cluster) for approxim ately 10 second s to enter
the variance mode, and release the button when the VAR
sym bol appears. The current variance valu e will also be
displayed . Once in the variance mode, it is necessary to
release the button, and then press and hold it again
(approxim ately 10 second s) until CAL is displayed (solid
not blinking). Manu al compass calibration has been
initiated . Drive the vehicle slow ly in one or more circles
Com pass Varian ce
Variance is the difference betw een magnetic North and
geograp hic North. For prop er compass function, the
correct variance zone must be set.
Settin g the Com pass Varian ce
Refer to the variance map for the correct compass vari-
ance zone. To check the variance zone, the ignition must
be on. Press and hold the left button (located on the
instru ment cluster) for approxim ately 10 second s to enter
the variance mode and release the button when the VAR
