Four-wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS)
Yourvehicleisequippedwithananti-lockbrakingsystem(ABS).This
systemhelpsyoumaintainsteeringcontrolduringemergencystopsby
keepingthebrakesfromlocking.NoisefromtheABSpumpmotorand
brakepedalpulsationmaybeobservedduringABSbrakingandthe
brakepedalmaysuddenlytravelalittlefartherassoonasABSbrakingis
doneandnormalbrakeoperationresumes.Thesearenormal
characteristicsoftheABSandshouldbenoreasonforconcern.
UsingABS
Whenhardbrakingisrequired,applycontinuousforceonthebrake
pedal;donotpumpthebrakepedalsincethiswillreducethe
effectivenessoftheABSandwillincreaseyourvehicle’sstopping
distance.TheABSwillbeactivatedimmediately,allowingyoutoretain
steeringcontrolduringhardbrakingandonslipperysurfaces.However,
theABSdoesnotdecreasestoppingdistance.
Brakeassist
Thebrakeassistsystemprovidesfullbrakingforceduringpanicbraking
situations.Itdetectsarapidapplicationofthebrakepedalandusesthe
ABSsystemtoachievemaximumbrakingpressure.Onceapanicbrake
applicationisdetected,thesystemwillremainactivatedaslongasthe
brakepedalispressedorABSisengaged.Thesystemisdeactivatedby
eitherreleasingthebrakepedalorcomingtoacompletestop.Whenthe
systemactivates,noisefromtheABSpumpmotorandbrakepedal
pulsationmaybeobserved;thisisnormal.

TheABSlampintheinstrument
clustermomentarilyilluminates
ABS
whentheignitionisturnedon.If
thelightdoesnotilluminateduring
startup,remainsonorflashes,the
ABSisdisabledduetoamalfunctionandneedstobeserviced.
