ground.
DONOTuse the jack to raise the vehicle
until you have carefully read and understood
’Positioning the jack’ later in this section. If
in doubt, consult your dealer.
Care must be taken to avoid accidental
contact with any underbody parts, especially
the hot exhaust system components, likely
to cause personal injury during raising or
lowering of the vehicle.
VEHICLEJACKING
Ensure that the space under and around the
vehicle is free from obstruction as it is
lowered.
Oneoftwotypesofjackwillhavebeen
suppliedwithyourvehicle-eitherabottlejack
orpillarjack.Theoperationofeachtype
differsgreatlyanditisimportanttoreadthe
appropriateoperatinginstructionsthatfollow.
Thebottlejack(iffitted)isstowedina
compartmentundertheleft-handfrontseat
(see’Battery’fordetailsofaccess).Thejack
handleandtools(orpillarjack-iffitted)are
stowedinabagbehindthefrontseatin
’Pick-up’and’Hard-top’modelsandunderthe
benchseatin’Soft-top’and’StationWagon’
models.
Operatingthebottlejack
Slotthejacklevertogether,ensuringthatthe
springclipprotrudesfromtheengagement
slotwherethetwopartsjoin(seeinset).Close
thejackreleasevalvebyturningitfully
clockwiseandinserttheleverintothesocket
whereshown.Pumptheleverupanddownto
raisethejack.
Tolowerthejack,withdrawtheleverandslot
thenotchedendoverthethepegsonthe
releasevalve.Slowlyturnthereleasevalve
anti-clockwiseallowingtheweightofthe
vehicletolowerthejack.
