Transmission’windup’
Asageneralrule,thedifferentialshouldonly
belockedinordertodriveoff-roadonloose
andslipperysurfaces.ALWAYSunlockthe
differentialfornormalroaddrivingorassoon
asahardgrippysurfaceisreachedwhether
highorlowgearsareselected.
Ifthewarninglightisobviouslyreluctant
toextinguishafterthedifflockhasbeen
deselected,sometransmission’windup’
maybepresent.

Reversingthevehicleforashortdistance
andthengoingforwardwillusually
’unwind’thetransmissionandextinguish
thelightandthevehiclecanthenbe
drivenasnormal.However,ifaftertwoor
threeattemptsto’unwind’the
transmissionthelightremainson,
consultyourdealerASSOONAS
POSSIBLE.
WARNING
If the vehicle is driven on normal road
surfaces with the differential locked, the
steering will feel stiff, excessive tyre wear
will occur and the transmission will be
’wound up’. This places excessive strain on
the transmission.
Difflockwarninglight
Theamberwarninglightontheinstrument
panelilluminateswhenthedifflockisactually
engaged-ratherthanwhenithasbeen
selected.Similarlyitwillonlyextinguishwhen
thedifflockisactuallydisengaged.This
accountsforaslightdelaybetweendifflock
deselectionandthewarninglight
extinguishingwhichisquitenormal.
