Yourvehicleisfittedwithasophisticated
anti-theftalarmandengineimmobilisation
system.Inordertocombinemaximumvehicle
securitywithminimuminconvenience,youare
advisedtogainafullunderstandingofthe
alarmsystembythoroughlyreadingthis
sectionofthehandbook.
Featuresofthealarmsystem
Perimeter protection:Thispartofthealarm
systemprotectsthedoors,bonnetand
taildooragainstunauthorisedentry-thealarm
soundingifanyoneoftheseaperturesis
openedwithoutthealarmfirstbeing
disarmed.
Interior protection:Alsoknownasvolumetric
protection,thispartofthesystemprotectsthe
spaceinsidethevehicle.Ifmovementwithin
thepassengercompartment,orintrusions
throughthewindowsorsunroofaredetected,
thealarmwillsound.
ARMINGTHEALARM
WARNING
If a passenger or animal is to be left inside
the vehicle, or if a window or sunroof is to
be left open, interior protection must be
disabled. Refer to ’Interior protection’
before arming the alarm.
Engine immobilisation:Theengineis
immobilisedelectronicallywheneverthealarm
systemisarmed.Evenifthealarmhasnot
beenarmed,engineimmobilisationwilloccur
automaticallythirtysecondsafterthedriver’s
doorisopened,orfiveminutesafterthe
starterswitchisturnedtoposition’0’.
Toarmthealarm,aimthehandsetatthe
Defenderandpresstherighthandbutton
(PADLOCKSYMBOL).Providedallthedoors
andotheraperturesareclosed,thedirection
indicatorlightswillflashthreetimesto
confirmthatthealarmisarmed.Allthe
securityfeaturesdescribedpreviouslywillbe
active.
Inpractice,thismeansitisvirtually
impossibletoleaveyourDefenderunattended
withouttheenginebeingimmobilised.
Oncearmed,thealarmwillsoundifadooror
thebonnetisopened,orifmovementis
detectedinsidethevehicle.
