Don’tforgettoallowforgroundclearance
beneaththechassis,axles,andunderthe
frontandrearbumpers.Notethattheaxle
differentialsaresituatedBELOWthechassis
andarepositionedslightlytotheRIGHTofthe
centreofthevehicle.Notealsothatthereare
otherpartsofthevehiclewhichmaycome
intocontactwiththeground;takecarenotto
groundthevehicle.
OnvehiclesnotfittedwithTractioncontrol,if
thevehicleisimmobileduetolossofwheel
grip,thefollowinghintscouldbeofvalue:
Avoidprolongedwheelspin;thiswillmake
mattersworse.
Removeobstaclesratherthanforcingthe
vehicleacrossthem.
Clearcloggedtyretreads.
Groundclearanceisparticularlyimportantat
thebottomofsteepaslope,orwherewheel
rutsareunusuallydeepandwheresudden
changesintheslopeofthegroundare
experienced.
Reverseasfaraspossible,thenattempt
anincreasedspeedapproach-additional
momentummayovercometheobstacle.
Brushwood,sackingoranysimilar
materialplacedinfrontofthetyreswill
improvetyregrip.
Onsoftgroundtheaxledifferentialswillclear
theirownpathinallbutthemostdifficult
conditions.However,onfrozen,rockyorhard
ground,hardcontactbetweenthedifferentials
andthegroundwillgenerallyresultinthe
vehiclecomingtoasuddenstop.
Alwaysattempttoavoidobstaclesthatmay
foulthechassisoraxledifferentials.
