Incoldweather,orwhenthebatteryisina
lowstateofcharge,depresstheclutchpedal
whilestartingandholditdownuntilthe
engineisrunning.

Checkthatthehandbrakeisappliedand
thatthegearleverisinneutral.
Switchoffallunnecessaryelectrical
equipment.
Coldclimates
Inverycoldclimates,thebatterychargingand
oilpressurewarninglightsmaytakeseveral
secondstoextinguish.Similarly,engine
crankingtimeswillalsoincrease;at-30°Cthe
startermotormayneedtobeoperated
continuouslyforaslongas30secondsbefore
theenginewillstart.Forthisreason,ensure
thatallnon-essentialelectricalequipmentis
switchedoff.
Iftheengineiscold,pulloutthecoldstart
control(iffitted)andturnitclockwiseto
lock(seeillustration).

Insertthestarterkeyandturntheswitch
toposition’II’andthenontoposition’III’
tooperatethestartermotor.DONOT
presstheacceleratorpedalduringstarting
andRELEASETHEKEYassoonasthe
engineisrunning.
Additionally,inverycoldclimates,useofa
cylinderblockheaterwillimprovetheengine’s
startingcharacteristics.YourLandRover
dealercanadviseyouaboutthesupplyand
useofacylinderblockheater.
IntemperateclimatesDONOToperatethe
starterforlongerthan10seconds.Ifthe
enginefailstostart,switchoffandwait10
secondsbeforere-usingthestarter.Please
notethatprolongeduseofthestarterwillnot
onlydischargethebatterybutmayalso
damagethestartermotor.
Warmingup
Intheinterestsoffueleconomy,itisadvisable
tostartdrivingstraightaway,remembering
thatharshaccelerationorlabouringtheengine
beforethenormaloperatingtemperaturehas
beenreachedcandamagetheengine.
Intemperateclimates,thebatterycharging
andoilpressurewarninglightsshould
extinguishassoonastheengineisrunning.
NOTE: Remember to turn off the cold start
control once normal operating temperature is
reached.
