TheenginemustNOTbecrankedfor
morethan20secondsinanyoneperiod.
InthecaseofTdidieselmodels,qualified
assistancemayberequiredtoprimethefuel
systembeforetheenginecanberestarted.
Iftheaboveprocedureiscarriedoutona
vehiclethathasNOTrunoutoffuel,itwill
resultintheenginefloodingwithfueland
failingtostart.
Td5dieselenginevehicles
InthecaseofTd5vehicles,carryoutthe
followingprocedure:

Turnoffthestarterswitchandwaitfor15
seconds.
Turnthestarterkeytoposition’II’and
waitfor30seconds.
Turnoffthestarterswitch.
Repeatsteps2and3sixtimes.

Fullydepresstheacceleratorpedal.
Keepingthepedaldepressed,start
crankingtheengine.

Continuecrankingtheengineandassoon
astheengineisrunningonallcylinders,
easetheacceleratorpedalbackto
approximatelyhalfwaythroughitstravel,
andreleasethestarterkey.Theengine
shouldnowberunning.
7.
Iftheenginefailstostart,repeatthe
process.
Duringtheaboveprocedure,thefuelpump
willbeheardtooperate(primingtheengine).
Thisnoiseisnotacauseforconcern.
